Global trends
Increasing complexity
Across regions, immigration processes are becoming more complex, with new measures and checks being introduced in existing application procedures. Some countries have also announced that changes can be expected in the near future, such as in South Africa, Saudi Arabia, and Mexico.
Stricter rules, more enforcement
The past quarter has seen some restrictive measures take effect. This includes measures to protect local workers in the U.S. and Canada as well as nationalization measures across the Middle East. At the same time, there is increased enforcement of existing rules in different regions. For example, internal Schengen border controls have been reintroduced in several EU countries.
